A "Yes" To Yourself
The ability to face risk and danger is existential to us. The roots of our survival instinct tell us to fight or flee, assess the risks and dangers ahead of us, take swift decisions and execute them with rigorous confidence.
Yet, courage is even more than that. It is even there in between dangerous times. It's a deliberate and conscious action towards the future. Aiming at staying alive. Aiming at what is good for us, aiming at what we dream about.
Courage is to deal with risk to get the reward. It is a "yes" to yourself.
Fuel For Your Future
It is a "yes" to the future. No matter how uncertain or dangerous it might be. An ability to fuel ourselves with a "can do" attitude.
I happen to see less and less of that in our society and work life. It is such a "rare" trait to look for that to my mind it grotesquely is attributed as a very desirable quality in job profiles. Isn't courage and "can do" a core attribute? A life enabler?
Yes it is. Still, it is often sought after. That is because nothing that is human could be ever static or constant in life. We change constantly, as life does. And as such, we do have more or less courage at times.
Head Up, Shoulders Back
We need to remind ourselves to keep it up, to maintain and train boldness, courageousness, progressiveness. To take action. To create future.
As much as I see this as a call for a serious conversation with the man in the mirror, as much I see it as important to remind the people around us about courage.
Any individual, any team and any company will benefit from conscious courage. I have seen so many people painfully trying to move things forward without being courageous enough. Me included. It's clearly missing both at an individual as well as on a societal level.
New Is Always Unknown
To me one of the most impressive and important consequences of courage is progressiveness and open-mindedness. Courageous people don't shy away from the new, but look at it attentively, trying to assess it, discover it and utilize it.
The intrinsic power of progress is in the treasure box we call "courage". It's worth rises when the treasure box is being used, opened and looked after. Don't let this treasure catch dust in a corner or let it bury by doubt, failure or situation.
Dig it. Clean it. Use it. Be courageous.
